Steak and Cheese Garlic Toast Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 300 g steak ribeye, sirloin, or strip steak
  • 200 g shredded cheese mozzarella, provolone, or cheddar
  • 4 slices of thick bread such as sourdough or baguette
  • 50 g unsalted butter softened
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or parsley
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes optional

  • Cast iron skillet or heavy-bottomed frying pan
  • Baking sheet
  • Knife and cutting board

Method
 

  1. Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with minced garlic and dried oregano or parsley. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Steak: Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Season the steak with salt, pepper, and chili flakes (if using). Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare or longer for desired doneness. Let it rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly.
  3. Prepare the Garlic Toast: Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Spread the garlic butter generously on each slice of bread and place them on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake the Toast: Bake the bread for 5 minutes until slightly golden. Remove from the oven.
  5. Assemble the Steak and Cheese Toast: Top each slice of garlic toast with sliced steak and a generous amount of shredded cheese.
  6. Melt the Cheese: Place the baking sheet back in the oven under the broiler for 2-3 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Remove from the oven, garnish with additional herbs if desired, and serve immediately.
