Ingredients
  

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter
  • 6-7 medium Granny Smith apples
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 egg for egg wash

  • Rolling Pin
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Pastry blender or fork
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Sharp knife
  • Pastry brush
  • Cooling rack

Method
 

  1. Prepare the pie crust by cutting cold butter into flour until crumbly
  2. Gradually add ice water, forming a smooth dough
  3. Chill dough for 30 minutes
  4. Peel and slice apples into thin, uniform pieces
  5. Mix apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch
  6. Roll out bottom crust and place in pie dish
  7. Add apple filling
  8. Cover with top crust, crimp edges, and cut ventilation slits
  9. Brush with egg wash
  10. Bake at 375°F for 45-50 minutes until golden brown
  11. Cool on rack for 2-3 hours before serving
