My homemade shepherd's pie

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion diced
  • 3 carrots chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 4 large potatoes peeled and quartered
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Potato masher
  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Large pot (for boiling potatoes)

Method
 

  1. Brown meat in a skillet. Add onions, carrots, and garlic. Cook until soft.
  2. Stir in peas, tomato paste, and broth. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. Boil potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with milk and butter.
  4. Pour meat mixture into baking dish. Top with mashed potatoes.
  5. Bake at 400°F for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
